Engine Angle

Hi To All

I am beginning another T

This one is basically a SPIRIT frame and body
the question I have is about the engine/transmission angle

When the frame was on jack stands the w/ engine installed everything looked good

When I put the 18 wide 31 tall tires on and the little skinny front tires on

The angle of the frame and then of course the engine are at a 10 degree down angle towards the front

THE QUESTION IS

How much angle is OK

I will post pics tonite hopefully

Any help would be nice

Frank

Also I have a t for sale on EBAY

it is the white one

I also have a Weiand Blower for a Vortec -- never been mounted brand new

Need funds for this one

Phone # is 216-272-4516

Thanks

Frank

I don't see any cause for alarm if everything fits well. After all, does the engine not run just as well if it is going down hill as it does going up hill? I purposely set my engine so that the headers and the mufflers were at the same angle as the frame because I don't like the exhaust hanging down at a different angle than the body. This is only my opinion but I have not experienced any problems with the performance in over 15,000 miles. Check the picture below to see what I mean.

You may want to see where the tailshaft on the trans is pointing before doing any adjusting.

Hi

Tail shaft is in a OK Angle i think

I will check that on friday
I uploaded a bunch of pics into the gallery

hopefully you will comment

thanks in advance for your efforts

Shouldn't be a problem , as long as your headers and pipes don't point up hill and ruin the profile of the car. May just need to adjust the float levels on the carb to suit once it's all done and running.

Well, here we go AGAIN! HA! Its is whatever angle YOU want it to be AS LONG AS your trans. Tailshaft is pointed directly at the Rearend yoke when your accelerating. Simple.
Your put your motor where you want it to be, then run a string from your trans. tailshaft to your rearend pinion. Now then, raise it about 1 Degree, and you'll be pretty close. Dummy everything up, then as you fab things, get your pinion angle set.
Don't finishweld anything till you get driveshaft where you want it and your pinion angle there, and start working from front to rear.....

guys, I think we need to enlighten him on the WHOLE Driveline. That way, everything is set up correctly.
That is, when you hop down on the car, the whole driveline is forming a straight line, theres nothing that'll cause vibrations, camming and all that other stuff......

How much down angle is OK? You need to look at some vintage 55 gassers!!!!!!!!! Or Comet Gassers!

In talking to Frank on the phone. The problem is not the engine to pinion angle. It is all OK. The problem is he has put really big tires on the rear of this car and little ones on the front and now it has a lot of rake. He is concerned that the carb won't work right at this angle. I cannot find his pics in the galley to have a look. My thought is it should work fine, just like driving down a mountain all the time, or think what a carb goes through when it is in a boat.

I am building a Spirit Car and am running a 31" tall tire in the back and 24" in the front and the frame angle is 3 degrees, I'm having a real hard time understanding how he can have so much frame angle????

I got 34x18 tires on mine and a heck of a rack but it works. Just put a level on the carb base on the intake manifold. With the base level the trans should be about 3 degrees down and the rear pinion should be 3 degrees up.

This is a shot of my chassis back when I first built it.

Hi
Hey I got it all figured out
I put two more leafs in the front spring and then added a 2 inch block above the spring
by doing this I raised the front end quite a bit and gained ground clearance
Now the engine is almost level again
So I should be fine
Thanks for all your help
Thank you to RPM for your time and ideas
