Brand new transmission. Filled up converter before installing. Read that turbo 350 takes 12 qts to fill. Can you put that much fluid in without engine running? Or, do ya fill the tranny pan with as much as it will take, not running, and then fill it up the rest of the way while engine is running????
Fill the converter, then a couple qts in the pan and then the rest as it's running. When you get close say 9 qts run the tranny through the gears, then top off. You should be good to go. That's how I've always done it and have never had a failure.
If its a brand new tranny, think about changing the filter after about 500 miles. you will waste the fluid and filter but get rid of any contaminants in the trans.
