Front coil overs and batwings

Quick question. Weld-on batwings on a front axle are often made to bolt the transverse front spring between. Could you bolt coil over shocks onto the batwings where the leaf spring would mount or would it be better to weld new mounts onto the axle and mount them there?

Thanks

I am building a coil over front end in the shop now. Here is a pic of how I did it. We had to make the axle a little different to get the bat wings far enough apart to accommodate the coil overs and still clear the frame.

Not great photos, but my coilovers are in double shear on the axle, but single on the top.

You will probably get better long term results if you use the bearing ends when mounting coil overs in that type of configuration on the front. Also, RPM's bracket is more suited to that type of mounting than a three eared type which would need more support.T Axle Brkts (sized).jpg

I have a set of Ron's weld-on batwings for an Ibeam axle. As you can see they're not like the ones above though they're not exactly like what Ron is showing on the first photo. They seem stout enough.batwing1.JPG
