Gas Pedal

Hey all,

I wasnt really sure where to put this topic, but I am sure that someone can tell me. Anyway, I am wondering if anyone is using a custom type of gas pedal that mounts to the firewall, in lieu of the floor. it seems that mine will need to be located above the tranny tunnel, but I want it to project out (towards the back) so that I dont have to put my foot on the tunnel itself. Any ideas would be very helpful. Thanks...

don't know if it helps....But I made one to fit my '27.
mounts to the firewall next to the "hump"
also in this pic is the brake pedal I made that mounts to the firewall....

Nice Job, thanks for posting. I already have the brake through the floor and I was considering making the gas pedal. I guess that would be best.

Most of the aftermarket "street rod" gas petals mount to the firewall. They typically are splined so you can adjust it to work for your application. I see RPM (Ron Pope) has a pretty heavy duty one he sells. One work of caution: I bought a smallish one that was not quite heavy enough. Once I got my car running and went up and down the street a few times I had acually bent it during a mashing of the pedal! I ended up cutting thebent arms off and welding up my own armes to the spline. Works great now!

On my 27 roadster I have one that I bought from Speedway about 20 years ago. It was not really good and I had to grind a flat section on the shaft so it wouldn't slip. My Son Don has a Speedway one that he bought 2 years ago and it is much better. The shaft is splined like an axle and features lots of adjustment both ways.

I am in the midst of rebuilding my 27 right now and the new one from Speedway is what I plan to use. It mounts to the firewall and takes a Lokar throttle cable setup, which makes mounting a cinch. Sells for right around $ 50.00. We through bolted it rather than trust screws into the firewall wood.

the one that donsrods is going to use is really nice you can out the pedal at any angle from the arm because the shaft has fine splines to adjust it.

Lokar makes a great adjustable pedal, I recently replaced my 40 year old jury rigged pedal with one. I think it took all of about 15 minutes to do. In the last year I've been making a lot of upgrades to my old ride and honestly have found Lokar products to be reasonably priced for the quality of material and craftsmanship built into their products.

One word of experience guys. I have one of Totals last bodies and I just mounted my pedal to the firewall, seeming thats where most guys that I have seen mount theres, when I pushed it to the floor to make sure I was getting full throttle, I almost pushed it through the firewall. So I had to resort to cutting sheetmetal a reinforcing the inside of the whole firewall. Another one of Totals great products I guess

We glass a piece of 3/4 inch plywood that is shaped like the firewall to the inside. The glass alone isn't very strong.

This is why I LOVE this forum :):). You ask a question and get a great variety of options, opinions and brain food. Thanks so much to all of you for sharing.

Ron (RPM) sells a gas pedal that mounts to the firewall.

I would strongly suggest backing the fire wall with plywood, 5/8 or 3/4. Even if you don't mount anything to it you can keep heat from the engine out of the interior. For mounting things to the plywood, go to any hardware place and pick up some T-nuts like they use in furniture. Very easy to use, drill a hole and put them into the wood with a bolt.

I use the GM type of pedal. like the 90's S-10 or Camaro. They work fine and they are most time free. just my 2 cents.

Thank you for the suggestion...
