You know I have believed that for a long time when it came to the engine in my T Bucket. And finally, I have to a agree with Ted and say maybe I was wrong.
My bucket previously had a 627hp blown 454, and it was a really nice balanced setup. Chassis hooked up well & the tires never lit up on the street, and it was a lot of fun and was an attention grabber too.
In the past few years, we have tried EFI on the 454, had the dyno guy melt the engine, upsized to a blown 540 built from junk parts, been disappointed with the performance of the new engine, and finally, bought a whole bunch of new parts and did a new 540.
The new engine is 825hp/750 ft/lbs with 650 ft/lbs by not far off idle.
I think I may have found the limit for a street engine, and its a bit less than I currently have.
