Inverted front perch

Because it's part of the frame I put this thread here, hope it's ok.

It seems most T Buckets have a pretty standard perch but I really like the looks of this one, but it doesn't look to popular. Has anyone have anything to say about why this wouldn't be a good idea to use this style? Any history of failures?

I may have been the first to use this type of perch, I wanted my frame a bit lower and I like the spring showing all the way accross, plus I added a safety bracket that also holds the front plate, which is a law in calif. plate needed... WELL over 200.000.00 HARD miles and no problems with strength of the four 7/16" bolts that I use to hold everything together... Do your own thing... Ride safe

The big not so much a problem is you live is Wisconsin with rough roads and this sits the frame quite a bit lower for rough roads. Some people on here have oil pans with skid plates built in I forget who makes them.

Ron, I made a drawing of my own version of a front perch and sent it to an engineer friend and had him do a quick structural analysis. He said the same thing you guys are saying; no problem at all.

I drew it on my "Old School" drafting table because I just never got into CAD. Anyhow, are you able to custom cut it from a hand drawing? It's got dimensions etc. but not sure if your into that kind of thing.

thats how mines built, no problems.

I built my front paerch and it's inverted. It was from the CCR plans that I have.
I built my frame and front perch from CCR plans everything else seems to be from other plans or my own ideas.

many many T's are built using that style perch, i think thats where the term suicide frontend come from... i wouldnt use u-bolts though, i like the plate and 4 straight bolts better, also you can fine tune ride height with this style perch, you can just add a lowering block under the spring...

It looks like you have reverse eye spring

You can go with a standard eye spring to gain a few inches

without to much work. I had to do this upgrade myself.

I started with a standard eye spring, but the lower shock mount hit the top of the spring. The shock mounts to the triangle shaped shackle. Everything clears now but if I could raise the frame 3/4" without major surgery, I would be happier.

What would you do if you wanted to raise the frame?

Possibly put a spacer block that would fit between the perch gussets *under* the perch, then move spring to the underside?
