The new posts were likely in a forum you don't have permission to view.

There is a closed moderator's forum and a forum where an RSS robot is posting news and updates from the Jelsoft/vBulletin forum. For legal purposes, we do not delete posts and if something is moved off the open forum (for whatever reason) it goes into a closed holding forum.

If a post exists in any of those areas, the database knows there are new posts, but it also knows who has permission to see them and who doesn't.

Below is a screenshot of a robotic post made yesterday afternoon in a restricted forum.
