does anyone know a good method of attaching the short (speedway) windshield stanchions to a 23t fibreglas body? nothing seems to fit.

Had the same problem with mine I ended up making my own spedway only fit certain bodies. They should have that on their site.
Here is a link to make homemade ones

I have run into this problem many times over the years, as there are many different body makers out there, if you already have your posts and windshield frame, bolt that complete assembly together, (first!!!) then WAX the inside of the posts real good, this keeps the glass from sticking to the posts) then grind the corners of the body with a course (16 open coat disk) on your hand sander/grinder to get a good bonding surface, I even drill several small holes (1/4") in the area then build up the corner with fiber glass resin and MAT, now before this gets a chance to set up, slowly press the wind shield frame assembly onto the body at the angle you wish to end up with, you may use a long length of racer tape to hold the top of the frame in position until the glass goes off... then unbolt the posts from the frame and pull them off the body, you can now (if needed) ad some tiger hair or ground up mat and resin? or whatever type of filler you like, and again reset the posts back on and bolt the frame back to the posts, this will make a perfect fit and it will also take the strain off the small mounting bolts when finished, because the body now fits in the posts real tight...

Just another thought , when I did my fit-up [like Ted describes] I cut a piece of plywood as a stand-in for my windshield frame , I figured that was easier to handle & also I didn't have to be careful around it.

I'm having to do that sort of thing too. The Speedway 27T stanchions do not fit he Spirit 27T body. So, some grinding then some filling. In this regard, fiberglass is much easier to work with than metal.

I have a piece of 3/8 plywood I slip into the frame after I wrap the frame with tin foil.

I had to make a couple of molds for fiberglass parts from sheet metal and I used pam cooking spray on metal surface, just alight coat and the glass will not stick and pam will wipe off. I fited my post frist , then sprayed on post frist put bolts in with spray on them, dammed up around post with duck tape and poured fiberglass resin in area below and behind post. It did a great job , removed bolts and post came right off leaving perfect mould on body of car. Need to take not to get pam on area to adhere fiberglass too.
