Need some expert paint advice

I've been painting my project with Summit Dark Candy Apple Red Metallic paint. When I do the body I'd like to increase the metallic affect. I believe that I can buy additives to do that. I'm not looking for a metal flake effect, just more metallic. Give me some of your wisdom.

Thanks.

B ILL , IS THAT A COLORCOAT/CLEARCOAT ? iF SO, YOU COULD PUT METALLIC IN THE FIRST COAT OF THE CLEAR, IF SINGLE STAGE, BE WARY OF EXTRA MET. IN THE PAINT, COULD TURN IT 'SILVER LOOKING' REAL EASY !!

The summit paint is a single stage acrylic urethane. Looks very wet when it cures. Was thinking I could add some silver flakes; 0.002 or 0.004 size. Good idea or not????

Do you have access to a "touch up" gun ? W/that you could experiment w/ very small quantities, then judge the results. Remember, too dry, metallics lay on edge near the surface, too wet ,they sink, air pressure & tip size, as well as humidity & drying time {thinner used} effect metallic depth & placement, i.e. color variance.hop e this helps

The only advice I can offer is to turn off the air compressor before you call in sick.

One more thing, shake the can until you can hear the ball rattle.
Hope your sense of humor is turned on.

ha ha, ya..... I don't remember it, but I know I was at Woodstock cause I got the T-shirt.

Bill. sorry to jump in your thread.... I got a little spaced out I guess :buttkick: .
as to your paint. I'd be carefull with adding more metalic to that type of product. especially a dark color. the new paints are much easier to work with, but still require some experience to lay down the metalic evenly. you could end up with tiger stripes and mottling real easy there. doing a small "test panel" may or may not tell you what you want to know as it's pretty easy to get a small panel looking good because it covers the whole test section in only one or two passes of the gun.

just my opinion,

Russ
