Oil pan clearence to road

I have set the engine up in the chasis , and have 51/2 inches between the oil pan and the read, what distance do you guys run, this seems a little low measuring the wifes car?

My pan is 3" off the road and I have a Slam Guard pan which incorporates a 3/16" skid plate on the bottom for protection. I do not go "off roading" with my car so I have had no problem with the 3" ground clearance.

If you are running a beam/tube axle, then it shouldn't be any lower than that. Here in Australia, you have to have a minimum 4" of ground clearance.

3-1/2" here with a Slamguard. I catch it once or twice a season. So far, only scratches on the plate.

Watch for the speed bumps in the small mall shopping center parking lots, RR track crossings, and side road dropoffs.....these obstacles are tuff on pans....road debris is also a challenge for these cars. I recently got a piece of recap off a truck tire sucked under mine going to Oklahoma City. Looked for 20 miles for a little rise I could drive up on to get it out. Didn't hurt anything but sounded like crap!

cheers guys i will stick with the 51/2 inch clearence i have , there are some quite high rtraffic calming features here in the roads

I've got about 4" and I keep my eyes open. When I'm driving in my other car, I make a mental note of bad roads. I've never hit anything yet.

I get by with only 3", but you have to be on guard all the time. Road kill, speed bumps, rr tracks, etc. Always watching.

Got 5 inches on mine. Car hasn't been driven yet but it does not scrape my driveway approach like my brother-in-law's corvette does.
