My bucket has a powerglide with a home made floor shifter (doesn't lock into park and no neutral safety switch). After doing some research it looks like i'm out of luck finding an aftermarket shifter. Does anyone make a shifter or i'm i just out of luck?
Like yours my Powerglide will not lock into park. It's out of a '57 Chevy and the shifter is on the steering column. Parking on a slope requires a quick exit to place a block of wood in front and behind a rear tire.
personally I like B&M. Have had several different B&M shifters with the various trans and interior redos I have done. My current TH400 with full manual valvebody I have a B&M Quicksilver. I want a ratchet type shifter that only goes one gear change at a time. I like to slam the gears and I do not want going from 1st to 3rd or neutral or beyond. I like the looks of Lokar and the tall stick but it is not easy to shift and know or control which gear you are in or want when slamming gears. Its fine for just cruisin. And I have disovered Hurst automatic shifters are not near as good as B&M's (my opinion).
my 87 trans am has a reproduction Hurst Dual Gate shifter. Its not nearly as good as the original from 40yrs ago although it looks cool its rather...delicate in construction. But with 200 rompin horsepower...she doesnt need to be designed like a russian tank
I like the B&M streetrod shifter...simple elegant and you can pick a different length
