I was searching around and came across 1wilds1 bucket in the gallery and had a question. Is that a corvair box mounted above the frame? Looking from the side shot I would guess that is under the seat or right in front of it.
That would be correct a lot of early buckets where built this way. Kinda makes it hard to get in especially with top on. They are a little different to get used to drive with the dished steering wheel .

It's really not that hard to get in or out of once you develop the correct technique. I put my left hand on the windshield frame, step up on the rear tire with my right foot and step in with my left foot then my right foot and sit down. Or, although it takes a little more finesse than my 60+, fat crippled body has, i can get in like a car with horizontal steering. To get out i put my left hand on the top of the door, my right hand on the back of the body, lift myself up, move my right hand to the windshield frame, throw my left leg over then my right leg and hop out. It sure sound a lot more complicated than it is. I did put some small round Model A steps on it for the grand kids but i never use them. But, with the top on all bets are off.
Steering isn't that much different than a conventional steering.
have not been on the site latley. Yes it is reversed covair box, but i took the output shaft cut it and welded a peice in to make it longer.(P.S. this is a pain in the rearend )i will try to get some updated pics.

In all reality that box could have been mounted in the stock form, no need to reverse, the pitman arm would have come up from the bottom of the frame, instead of top down... If I remember right...
