Residual Pressure Valves

What are you guys running? I had read of some defective units, so I'd like some advice/knowledge on some good ones. Thanks.

 

May just be luck of the draw Fred. I bought mine from Speedway, and they seem fine after 9k miles. Some may say that you don't need them with below floor m/c, but that wasn't my experience.

 

I'm running Wilwood units with no problems.

I thought you were going Disc-Disc Fred.

 

When I was first planning this build, I was. Now, I don't see the need for disc-disc.

I'm not using any, and have no problems. Drums in rear, discs in front; adjustable proportioning valve on rears. Good pedal feel and stops on a dime. I have a pair of RPV's if you want 'em. Give me a snail mail address & I'll send them to ya'!

 

As far as price goes, the wilwood were overall cheaper for me to buy than the speedway brand. The. Willwoods came with the adapters, the speedway ones so not. So when you put the whole package together, the speedway ones cost a bit more.

 

Yea, that's what I saw when I checked them out.

 

The master cylinder in some cases have them built in.
What you want avoid is adding the residuals on top of the master with the residual inside.
If its a Disk -Disk master like I did you just add the residuals for the drum brakes.
I found that allot of the more cost effective masters are disk -drum with the residual built into the drum side.

How can you tell if they are in there already ?

 

Well when I was looking at summit masters it listed it in the details if it had it (sometimes)
I read that if you look at the outlet on that master and you can see a ball bearing instead of just a hole then its a residual check valve.
Also the dual reservoir ones that are disk-drum usually have one reservoir bigger than the other.
I think its the larger one for disks with no check valve, the smaller one for drums with the check valve.
It was last year when I researched all this so I could be mistaken.

 

When I bought mine I felt it was just easier and cheaper to go with the disk-disk master that had the same reservoirs and add the residuals, that way if I upgrade to disks later I can just take them out.
I went with I think it was a Tuff Stuff master (chev) and the remote reservoir kit from CCR I think it was.
So I can put the master under the floor and have the remote reservoir hidden in the box out back.




The Master was well priced at a deal I thought.. the CCR stuff not so much, it was pricey but I had to have it.
