Shifter mounting help

Hope this is the right place to ask this. I am running a caddy 331 with a hydro glide trans. I'm using a universal cable shifter and had to make a bracket to attach the cable to the trans but what is the best way to mount the shifter?
Do I need it to mount to the top of the trans or do I mount it to the body? I'll be running a glass bodyand a Lokar shifter.

With a cable shifter, you should be able to mount it where ever you want to. I would mount it to the floor and drill a hole just big enough to run the cable through.

I mounted mine vertically in the seat riser and made a small arm for it:

Got it off the floor.
