Sure gonna miss that gear drive and lumpy cam

I finally got the new 350 GM crate engine fired up this morning. Didn't get to run it very long, the water pump was barfing water all over the garage floor. I knew i should just have picked up a new water pump. I just finished painting the new water pump and as soon as it dries i'll get it back together and get the timing dialed in, let it run at a fast idle for a bit then see how she's gonna run.

I did get to run it long enough to know i'm really gonna miss that lope (not sure what the cam was but it had enough lope to make people ask what kind of cam i was running) and that sweet gear drive whine.

Looking at the 327 sitting in the corner of the garage and eyeballin' the '56 sitting in the driveway....and the old 6 banger has this strange blue cloud that follows it around....and the '56 would run really sweet with a fairly stock 350 and a 5 speed...

DO IT!!!

Second the motion!

Got the T-Bucket back together and got it timed. I took a short trip around the block but it wasn't shifting right so i can't really tell how it's going to run. Gotta get some more tranny fluid tomorrow.

I need to work a little more OT so i can get the 327 built. Do i build the 327 and swap it back into the T-Bucket? Bolt a 5 speed to the 350 and swap it into the '56? Build the 327 and swap it into the '56? Decisions, decisions.

As my flight instructor told me decades ago...... Fly the big ones!

I still have to get the timing dialed in and adjust the carb but i took it for a quick spin around the block today. With the 327 when i nailed it from a dead stop it just took off like a sling shot. With the new 350 when i nail it it smokes the tires and starts to get all out of shape. Maybe i won't miss the ole 327 so much after all.

Yeah, who wants to go straight when you nail it, ha.

Larry,

Looks like the next time I head south I'll be seeing your ride.

Hey Bob. How's it going? Maybe we can do a little cruising.

I Spent a big chunk of the afternoon installing some of the new VDO gauges and a new stoplight switch. It had a pressure switch and i hate those things. I've never had much luck with 'em luck so i headed on down to the local auto parts store. I asked the counter guy if they had a universal mechanical stoplight switch. "What year?" "A 1923 Model T Ford. It's a hot rod. I just need a generic switch." The look on his face was priceless. Counter guy number two says "Try a '54 Chevy pickup." Counter guy number one pulls it up, and shows me the picture. "That'll work." I Fabbed up a bracket and it works like a charm.

Plus you don't have to worry about leaks. I'll be driving the T back down south in early July and then back north again in late July.
