suspension(friction shocks) question.

Lately I've had the chance to really get my T out and drive it. Today When I hit a bump at about 50 the front end started bouncing and I had to slow down to stop it. It wasn't bouncing together it was alternating from side to side. It got me thinking that the friction shocks were/are not set correctly.
Any info on the proper way to set them?

I have my friction shocks mounted with friction disc on both sides of the arm that actuates them. With proper adjustment they have worked excellently for the past six years. Perhaps hydraulic shocks may work a little better than the friction ones but I much prefer the cleaner, simpler look of the friction units that I'm using. I have given many guys a ride in my T, Including many on this forum, and they are all quite impressed with the quality of ride and handling.

For those of us who would rather build than buy, what are you[anyone] using for "friction material" ? I've heard rubber, gskt material , etc., what did you use & more importantly, where did you get it?

Adjusting these has always bee a trial and error thing for me. Just try to get both side as close as possible.

I had rubber in mine but then a very good friend of mine had a clutch and brake rebuilding shop and he gave me some special clutch material that he had. What a difference, they stay in adjustment much longer. That way I don't have to adjust them but about once a year.

hydraulic shocks are what I like best, but if you keep on yours adjustment wise and have the right material, yes ya can get them to work, but also the size tire* and or rim too,or even brakes your using can be part of a control prob in that if they are to big and or a lot lb.s combind make it hard to stop bouncing . So look at if your rod is using the right combo

Hey Ex junk, any chance more of that material can be had? I have rubber on there now

I had the friction schocks with rubber disks on both sides. Seems I had to adjust tighter every 150 miles or so and repalce every 500. Put hyd shocks on and now there are no more issues, just driving and enjoying. Looks are in the eye of the beholder and if the hyd's are mounted right they can look good to.

friction material Speedway 925-36003 $9.99/pair

I had rubber disk in mine for a couple of years and had to adjust every hundred miles. I found some Teflon disk and they seem to work much better so far but haven't many miles on them yet.
