Titling a T

KAA

Member
My neighbor has a T for sale. The car was built in 2004. When he registered the car he had it registered as a 2004 Ford. Any chance you might run into problems down the road with emissions or something? And if so, any suggestion to how to reregister the car. Thanks

Yes. Becareful and research your laws in the state you live in before buying IMHO. I just went through all of this and only decided to build mine after my state enacted the SEMA legislation which exempts streetrods from emissions and mandatory safety equipment found on new cars. Where do you live?

I'm in Arkansas. He has a nice Spirit car, especially for the price. I checked with the DMV about reregistering it as a kit car but they said once it is registered, thats it. Don't know if you could change something on the car so you can get a new title.

Well, if the previous owner hasn't had problems, you shouldn't either. Why change what's working? I'd even go so far as to find out where he goes for inspections (if you have them). Where ever he's going, they may be tolerant to the T Bucket cause.

We don't have car inspections here.(That's why alot of cars here don't have taillights or they have broken windshields). Just thinking if California laws move in then what?

I bought the YeloT from a Texas fellow and it was registered as a 1923 car in Texas so in New Mexico it's titled as a 1923 Ford but, when I built the Chrome T in New Mexico, that some of you will remember, and registered it in New Mexico it was titled as a 2009 "rebuilt" Ford car. I did have to working lights, horn, brakes with parking brake, proper reflextors and windshield wiper. Nothing was said about anything else as far as what it would have needed as as 2009 factory built car.......

Thanks lincolnuT. The guy that owns the car now when he tried to get a street rod license plate for it they would not give him one saying it was to new. Just having visions of smog pumps and air bagsLOL.

If they move in? LOL I doubt that will happen and if it did, it's too late to effect you anyway. Get it, register it and get driving!

I have a spirit car too. It had a Arkansas title originally. Arkansas has the SEMA law and there is no problem titling or registering your street rod, so full speed ahead.

sstock, So does yours show to be a 2012 or something else? Thanks
No under the sema law the streetrod's model year is the year that the vehicle resembles. It is licensed as a 1923 Ford Model T PU Replica

You can contact Spirit and they will more than likely help you license and title it in Arkansas
