Welcome to XenForo 1.2

OK, we are now running on XenForo 1.2 Beta 1.

As you can see, there are some differences in the editor toolbar. But it is just a change in the icons, everything will work just as it did with TinyMCE. It will just work more reliably, now that we are on Redactor.

One of the really nice features is the ability to tag other users, to bring their attention to a post. By typing this, @RPM , Ron will get an alert, to let him know he has been tagged in this post.

Thankfully, after crawling on, in under, around and through the styling code, I saw a very simple way to make our stand-by styles work, with a very simple edit. So simple, it is a little embarrassing, actually. I spent over 8 hours trying to duplicate this red style, and then I realized I can make one, as in less than two, edit, which makes everything work a treat. The edit takes less than 8 seconds to make, so I opted for that method.

You will find the Member List is gone and away. Thank Goodness! It has been replaced with some brag lists, which really mean very little to me, but you might enjoy them.

As I was downloading the files for this upgrade, I noticed that XenForo 1.2 Beta 2 was released at 6:12 AM EST, this morning. I will upgrade a test forum with the Beta 2 software and if all goes well, then we will upgrade to it. Possibly tomorrow morning, or thereabouts.

Enjoy looking around 1.2 and discovering new features and functions. If you should discover something that is not working as expected, be sure to submit a ticket via the Help Desk, so I can sort out what is happening.

Apologies for the brief downtime. As mentioned in the OP, Beta 2 was released this morning and a couple hours later, Beta 3 was released. So I've moved forward and upgraded the site to Beta 3.

Please submit trouble tickets on anything that doesn't seem to be working correctly.

Well......... it works for me, nice work Mike.

I did in fact get a red flag alert to this post.

It is a quick and easy way to grab someone's attention, without resorting to Personal Conversations.

XenForo has really matured in the last few months and some of the new features are just hints of what is to come. Just eight or nine months ago, we were getting ready to write XenForo off as being doomed. But that was then and this is now. The future is looking pretty bright.

Here is one of the new features XenForo 1.2 brings to the table,. Although it might go overlooked by most of you, I appreciate the additional data it provides me.

Everything pretty much looks the same as it did in the 1.1.x branch, with the exception of that last line. The old versions simply displayed the total number of users online, and showed the total number of logged-in members.

But now, the software is capable of identifying user clients, so it can show how many of the non-members are bots and how many are human users.

At the time I grabbed that screenshot, there were 8 members, 42 guests (some of which could be members who are not logged in, of course) and 14 search engine bots.

The key part of that data is that of the 50 humans who were using the site, only 16% of them were members of the site. This is why I have been, and will continue to be, resistant to making this a subscription site. If we close the site down to only users who pay for the ability to view it, we would suddenly be locking out the lion's share of our traffic. How counter-productive would that be? It would also be closing the site to those 14 search engine bots, so we would lose search engine ranking, at the same time. Current and real-time data is showing me that in the last 30 days, 57% of our traffic arrived here after performing a search on one of the search engines, that returned this site as a match. If people cannot find us, then what happens to our traffic?

I hope this graphic will help some of you understand why I continue to maintain an open site, rather than one that is subscription-only.

Mike I see it from your side what you are talking about for traffic. What I dont see is new members pitching in to keep site open for info/ help/questions for their ride. I do see vary few people donating. I guss what is bothering me is you work so hard to keep this site up and there is nothing left to you to say thanks for this web site that you maintain. Mike I appreciate everything you do as im sure everyone does to.

What are the "robots" in the members on line box?

We were down for about 12 or 13 minutes, whilst I ran the upgrade script, updating us to XenForo 1.2 Release Candidate 1. We may see one more release candidate version before we go Gold, so we are rapidly coming to the end of the upgrades.

If you notice anything behaving in an unusual manner, please report it via the Help Desk.

And that is it! We are now running on a fully-supported version of XenForo 1.2.0. There may be a bug fix or two coming at us in the near future, but this should end what has been feeling like Upgrade Tuesdays for us. <he says as he dances the happy dance>

As always, if you should happen to stumble across something not working as expected, please submit a trouble ticket via the Help Desk.

Other than that, enjoy!
