Mine was August 6th 1968 at USNTC Great Lakes.

September 1964. Sworn in to US Army in Memphis, TN and went straight to Fort Jackson, SC for basic.

One of my friends that I grew up with was a drill instructor at MCRD San Diego in '69. Sgt. Cenkus. I hope you were lucky enough to not have him for your D.I.

My D I's were Watson, McMahon, and McTier. I have a scar below my bottom lip and ate enough sand to lower the ground level in boot camp. Watson was at Khe Sahn and told us about it every time we messed up, told us we would not last a day.
I used to know my rifle number, still know my service number. It was before they changed to SS numbers.
