I have asked many friends and and show exhibitors about how you spec a Torque Converter for a particular engine/trans/rear end combo. All I get is such & such should be fine!

Has anyone every seen a formula for spec'ing a Torque Converster?

Thank in advance!

Mark

I don't think you will get the same answer two times in a row. I think the recommendations you get are all based on past experience. I have never seen a specific chart on converters. There are just too many variables. I think you could call any converter manufacturer and talk to two different people and get different answers. It is just a crap shoot pay your money and take a chance on what "THEY" said will work.

Here is a good explanation of the variables affecting stall and some recommendations...

Clicky thingy

Sorry about that last post can't edit it either.

In the note section of the article "the clicky thingy", it states that there is no black magic formula, that the variables can be plugged in, resulting in a definitive torque converter choice.

I wonder if this is a marketing program to get us to by more of their product.

I don't think so. My impression is they are trying to be as frank and open as they can. Picking the correct converter is a very complex issue. The best answer is trial and error 'til you get it right, but TCI (and other sites with similar recommendations) is trying to help save some time. If you really want to see a major debate about converters and stall, go here... Hotrodders.com... and do a search on "stall." Be prepared to hide your family and go into the witness protection program if you challenge any of the "experts."
