Balancing Tabs on S10 Rear

So I'm setting my lower shock mounts on my S10 rear and where they need to land out is the balancing tabs, you know the little pieces of then stock that are spot welded to the tube so as to balance them I guess that's the only thing I can think they are for same as a drive shaft. My question is can i remove these or do they need to stay.

You really need to post a picture, rearend housings have no need to be balanced...ruggs

Those may be the old brake line retainers? A picture would indeed help.

no I know what the brake line retainers are these are small flat tabs spot welded on the tube, they look just like the tabs on a drive shaft that are used to balance it.

Here's his picture...
Looks like if there is a small space in the thin area a metal strap simular to a wire tie would slide under to secure a brake line??????????ruggs

This is just a guess......

The tabs may have something to do with locating the tubes in a fixture for welding or other manufacturing process.

Yes Paris you're right, then they would need a fixture to know where to weld on the tabs.......... oh, never mind.

You are right if you look at a stock rearend the brackets fit on these tabs to be welded in the correct place. I looked at mine before I cut them off,Take a chisel and knock them off

Yes knock them off. If you are running stock muffler bearings you wont need them!!! :hi:

ok i get it i will knock them off, and yes i am running chrome muffler bearings ,,,ha ha

Damn! I didn't know you could get them chromed! :wacky:
