Being There Without Being There!

While this is not auto related I thought you guys might enjoy the technical possibilities of it. The next little statement is just my sarcasm so take it for what it is.

Enjoy,

George

Maybe this is the way to fight future wars. Sure would be a lot less costly! Of course Politicians would be exempt. They would get to go and do it in person!

Great video. Thanks for posting. It was indeed a hugely dangerous mission and many good men never survived the landings. Very sad.

I flew gliders for a while in the early 90's and you have exactly one chance to land. There are no go-arounds or do-overs. It's difficult under the best conditions. I can't imagine doing it the way they did. Truly fearless heroes.

I watched a story on discovery channel of a group of tanks that were outfitted as boats, that were intended to precede the invasion force and take out a lot of the big guns before the boots hit the beach. Every single tank sunk in cross currents and every single man lost. So many stories about d-day that very few have ever heard of. Listened to an old navy man just last week on the radio, who's job it was to clear out the downed and destroyed trucks-tanks-equipment, to make room for the new ones as they hit the beach. 90% casualties his unit took in the first 60 seconds after his boat came ashore. He lay on the beach wounded for 14 hours before they got him out of there. He served out his tour, was home for 6 months and signed right back up and went back into action. He was 18 when he hit the beach that day. I know I don't give thanks enough for the freedom I have to sit in my air conditioned and heated garage and work on my toys, but all of us sure should. Thank you God for men like those.
