Buying stuff on ebay

This is a ad from a subject on ebay that has 100% rating. I noticed the price of his shocks. I then went to speedway and found the shocks. I then went to his comments and ratings and saw he sold this same setup for $100. It is amazing how some people think we are stupid. If you sold it on the 9th for $100 then why try and sell it for $200 on the 20th. I sent him a comment asking where he got robbed at since he states that he paid $400.00 for the shocks but yet in the book they sell for $49.99 each, ($200.00) He didn't like me snooping. Oh well. Becareful what you pay and it helps to lookup the regular price.

This is a set of new CARRERA street rod shocks #2254 They are designed to be used with coils ,This is shocks only no coils. I was going to use them on a JAG rear. They have four coils. They are chrome-gas pressure-adjustable damping with radial tuned ride. This CARRERA shock has been designed specifically for street rod applications. It is the best shock money can buy!!This shock has three settings #1 SOFT for t- buckets, roadsters and other light street rod, #2 MEDIUM, most coupes and light sedans. FACTORY SET HERE .#3 FIRM heavier sedans and post-war cars. I was going to put these on my t -bucket but plans have changed, I paid $400.00 for these shocks!! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Great post! Thanks ACE this is at the core of my original post.

I had one bad experience on ebay purchasing a used Holley 4bbl and since then have stayed away from ebay.

I have purchased some brackets from RPM and feel more comfortable dealing with him directly rather than going through his ebay outlet...just personal preference. Youngster's also been an excellent resource for things I can't find.

A lot of bucket chassis stuff, bodies, hardware can't be found locally, so I will likely go through Speedway.

For drivetrain, I'll be able to purchase anything I need thru local shops.

This is his response: Maybe I'm just stupid.

Dear wdfck9,

Hello, I bought the shocks at the harrisburg steet rod show. The 12 1/2 is ride hightand the shock travels 3" each direction. The shock is made for three different size cars.Light, medium, and heavy, not just a shock for a car.they ajust. That is the cost difference. They are realy nice looking shocks. Thanks for looking D.J.

e-bay is the same as swap meets...buyer beware!! not everyone selling parts on e-bay is knowlegable about what they are selling. most often in these cases, they are going by hearsay. this can work in your favor too. i just bought what was listed as stock hyd. brakes for a 1930 model a. i got a pair of '40 frt brakes and a pair of '46 front brakes for 6' some bucks with shipping. the guy took them off his model a cuz, as he said, he wanted to build a hot rod. you need to be aware of what you are looking for. study the pics. don't be afraid to ask the seller questions. if you have any doubt, pass on the item. another will show up.
