Ford 9" Rear Disassembly

Just like sandblasting even with the right equipment you get sand everywhere if you know what I mean.

The only thing that I can think of that would hold the pumpkin in is the axles...you did pull those?

Others may have done this already, but I thought I would share what I think is an easy way to work on the rear end and have full access to all areas for welding on the housing, prep, painting, assembly (other than 1 axle, etc.

I am in the midst of disassembling the rear and as you can see from the photos, I have not yet completely removed the cast housing. All of the nuts have been removed and I easily and gently pryed it loose to get about a 1/2" space between the housing and the cover. Now it seems to be springy and won't easily move any further. Am I missing a step? Is there something more to loosten or remove before this will come apart?

Thanks,

Look around the studs for the copper washers. They will hold it together and act springy. Pry them off with a screwdriver and the pumpkin will fall out. Don't worry about them on reassembly or a gasket, just use a good sealer and torque it back up. Is it a posi unit?

I did get apart after I understood how it goes together. I am now re-finishing it.

thanks
