Forum upgrade

I had the site shut down for a bit of time this morning to upgrade the forum software to the latest release.

The changes you will see are minor, as it was a maintenance release. The IPB devs have also introduced some new hook functionality to more closely integrate the official add-ons with the forum package. Unfortunately, we use a third-party add-on to generate some of the modules in the right side-column of the forum home page and the new code has whacked that particular function. I'll get the custom modules back in place as soon as there is a patch available.

I remembered to jump-start the Portal page (which is the first time ever) and it should be working as intended.

If you see any problems with any other functions or features, drop me a PM and I'll get on it as quickly as possible.

Keepin us bang up to date, eh Mike
Thanks I appreciate it

Gerry

Apologies to anyone who's been having problems logging into the forum today. Apparently more code was changed than I was led to believe. The code that provided the sliding log-in was clashing with the new forum code, so after upgrading that script barely 48 hours ago, it had to be disabled. :smashpc: After eliminating that problem, I discovered one bit of code was added to a log-in template, so I needed to add that to the Aztech Red, Green and Blue skins. RPM, you must be using the CleanCut skin, since you were getting in and out OK.

In case you were wondering, yes, I wish I had given this upgrade a pass, as it's been a burr under my saddle.

The Gallery script is being rewritten and is due to be released in another week or two. I wanted the ability to run Gallery 4, which meant the forum had to be upgraded. Damned if I do, damned if I don't. Gallery 4 is some slick stuff and I think you will really like what you see when we get it upgraded. Hopefully, I'm not going to be led down the garden path with a bunch of template edits after the upgrade.

Hopefully, everyone will be able to log in and out of the forum without any other problems.

I'm getting pretty excited about the upcoming release of IP.Gallery 4. The lead coder at IPS has been giving us sneak peeks and this one is really going to knock your socks off.

Here is what the current Member View looks like -

(I used an image from his test board, so you can see what the changes will be like without introducing our own forum skins.)

Oh, had I mentioned this is still a work in progress? I'm going to be all over the release, as soon as it becomes available.

I just hope it doesn't slow down the works in the process. I'm often dissapointed in site "upgrades" when they drag down the speed in the process. sometimes simple is pretty cool also.

I'm just saying,
Russ
