I have a 48 ford split wishbone front end with a spring with 9 leaves in it . i want to lighten up the spring and do not want to just take out leaves does anyone know where i can get a replacement spring for a 48 ford front end made for a light t bucket? maybe even a mono spring

Have you tried Speedway?

I think you are gonna have problems finding a light spring that wide. I would take out every other leaf and see how that looks and feels to you.

Why are you so hell bent on spending a lot of money for something you do not need?? Just rework the spring you have, it will also look a ton better than a LATE model Mono spring, that does not spell T Bucket, and work better as well,,, too many Jet plane parts as far as I see... unless that floats your boat...

I am in the same boat,,and looking at this spring..

Buy Pete & Jake's 1935-'48 Ford Parts at RJay's Speed Shop!

I have that exact spring, it came with a bunch of 46 Ford parts I bought from a member on another forum. It is one heavy momma, no lighter than the original Ford spring, but it has the advantages of having the slider buttons in it.

If I understand the original question that started this thread, you want to use the 48 front end under a T bucket. IMO it is never going to look right. These were made for cars that were heavier than the T's ever were, so they are considerably more bulky. The spring is not only heavier and wider, but it sits out front of the axle, which is going to shorten your wheelbase and cause you some clearance issues with the frame and axle trying to occupy the same space.

I would simply get the right components and use your 48 spindles and brakes on a lighter setup. You could use the wishbones by cutting off the front spring perches and going the suicide routine by affixing your new spring behind the axle. Here is a picture of my setup that is done exactly that way. It allows you to use a commonly available spring of normal width too.
