Ok, enough already. We need updates. My Super kit was ordered 8 days ago from Spirit and I need to hear more about your build.

Well I wish I had something to update. They were ready to ship the kit last week, but I was going to be out of town all this week so I asked them to hold off on shipping until I got back. They might have shipped it today, but I didn't get a phone call or email saying so. I'll have to call them on Monday to find out if they shipped it.

Dont you hate it when your job gets in the way of your fun. Anyway i am also waiting on the state to send me my paperwork for my tag and so here we are .

Rooster, is there some sort of temporary tag in the mean time so you can at least drive it some?

No not in oklahoma but i have been driving it in the neighborhood. I have a tulsa cop at the end of the block and he just gives me the thunbs up but on the street could cost me . It took 3 years to build i can wait 30 days or so to be legal and do things right.

I'm happy to report that my kit shipped from Spirit today! :D

Don't know the estimated delivery date yet though. The shipper's web site hasn't been updated, it only says that shipping information was recieved. He was out of rear radius rods but he'll build them and get them shipped out this week.

I'm really ready to get past the logistic stress of this delivery. I still don't know what to expect when that truck rolls up out front of my house. I'm assuming I'll have to break down the crates on the truck and carry all the parts to the garage from the street. I have some possible help lined up, but nothing for sure. And even they won't leave work until I call them and tell them the truck is here, so they won't be here until 15 minutes after the truck gets here. I'm thinking the driver might get a little annoyed for that 15 minutes. My brother might be able to hang out here waiting for the truck, so there might at least be two of us for that first 15 minutes.

Usually big delivery trucks call the morning of delivery to give an estimated time to make sure someone will be home.

Hopefully they'll be able to narrow it down better than when my motor and tranny were delivered. In that case, they said it could be anytime between 12 and 4.

I need to ask for some opinions here. I still need to decide on wheel and tire size. I've been reading on here how some "standard-length" chassis combined with a lot of power can turn the thing sideways. I understand that this can be mitigated with proper attention and money towards the chassis, but I'm going to run what comes with the Spirit kit. I'll be starting out with 405 HP and 440 ft/lbs torque and I would like it to go straight when I get on it. I also understand that tire size will play a significant role in this. Will taller rear tires help keep it straighter under throttle? Would I be better off going 31" tall on the back rather than 29"? And how wide? And for the tires that I'm sure you'll suggest (that I hope you'll suggest) how wide should the rims be?

Well my Man, here is my opinion on this, you do what floats your boat... First off, you will have to build your own headers, if you can not buy at least 2 1/8" OD = 2" ID header tubes, with a 3 1/2" collector at least... as this will help in lowering the bottom end power, which you for sure do not need in a light car. Run as tall a gear as you can find, I run 33" tall tires, 10" foot print, mounted on 15" wide wheels, (look a lot wider than they really are this way also) to eliminate any rim roll in the tires when cornering, otherwise it feels like a broken Panard-Watts link-sway bar, you get the point... As far as front tires goes, when you are all finished, with all the weight in the chassis, see how much ground clearance you/the pan has.. this will kinda tell you how tall of a front tire (and wheel) you will need... If the pan is below a 15" rim scrub line, then you may need to run a 17" or 18" 12 spoke type wheel to make it legal... just a few things to think about... Enjoy the ride building... then enjoy the RIDE :)

Thanks for the reply Ted. I guess if lowering bottom end torque is going to be that beneficial, I could just go ahead and throw on my tunnel ram now instead of waiting until the motor is broken in...

It would be nice to see some buckets in person for comparison of back tires to see what looks right, but you just don't see them around here.

With all the photos showing wheels and tires?? The main reason, besides traction, that I now run 10" wide tread tires, is fuel mileage... The wider the tire, the more fuel you use, and a WAY wide tire is always hitting something, it seems.. hehe I also like to keep that part of the tire, out just enough to keep anything it wants to throw, away from ME and my windshield... :)

haha Ted, what part of fuel economy are we talking about here?

I can get 13 miles per gallon in my bucket on the open road.

And thats with a blown 454 and a pair of 750 Edelbrocks and 3.0:1 LSD in the nine inch. Powerglide with 3500 stall and tyres are 31.5 tall and 19.5 wide.

I think thats mighty fine fuel economy.:)

I got my kit today! :)

I only got a couple pics before the battery died in the camera. Now I gotta go clean up a bit so I can go out for some birthday drinks.
