1. Simplicity which reflects in ease of building and maintenanceWhy are these so addictive???

4. Ability to make it your own, since they are not highly sought after or rare causing the typical gate keeping and investment concerns to require coloring inside the lines.
I will say that I have very distinct preferences (#4) about how one is built and accessorized, but I don't begrudge someone else making one their own, provide it's not trying to be something it's not or unsafe.
On that last point, let's face it they are unsafe in the modern age, I mean loose or worn parts, bad engineering or shoddy build quality.
They tend to be overpowered with limited suspension travel, but the combo of low mass, quick response and senses not dulled by much more than a windshield is the American equivalent to a Lotus 7 or Porsche 356 but with much more HP at a fraction of the cost.
