How to change upper spring shackle bushings?

I'm trying to change my upper spring shackles on split wish bones. I believe they need to be pressed out but my arbor press does not seem to help. Does anyone have any helpful hints on changing these out. Thanks in advance.

I really do not remember just what the OD of that bushing is, looks like maybe 3/4? anyway, if you have a piece of tubing that same OD, sand it down smaller on the outside so as not to be too tight, and then with a big 3/4 or 7/8" drill bit, chamfer the inside of that tube, so it fits that taper of that outer bushing housing, with this you should be able to use it as a installer tool, to drive out the old bushing, and drive in the new, yes? with a hammer... Heck someone else may have a better way, as I mostly use slide in, two/3 piece bushings now... :)

I have a piece of 3/4" stock that has been turned down .005. There is a shoulder on it that is .140x 1.000 under the .745 od. I don't use it much anymore because shackle kits are so cheap and much easier to install. Your car is much lighter than that '40's Ford or Merc was. The plastic bushings will last a long time.

O.K. I have spent the last 4 hours trying to drive these things out and I don't think I'm doing any good. I took them by a machine shop and they wanted at least 2 hours labor at $75.00 an hour :jawdrop: Is it advisable to heat the set up with a torch then try driving it out? Or is there a tool that is designed to change these out? I'm thinking that getting them out is only half the job, driving the new ones in without damaging them is going to be the real deal?

Here is a tool that I use on bushings and ball joints with a little heat they should c ome right out. Try and rent one or buy one they are really handy.I also use it for u-joints.
OTC ball joint press
