Well, I'm back, had to pull a bunch of allnighters. OK, I made a rough floor out of cheap 1/4" plywood, traces around it, cut the plywood sheet to fit the outside of the body exactly. Made about 4 registration marks, so everything would line up if I had to pull it off more than once. Once I got the motor to firewall clearance, I centered the body, made the cutout for the trans tunnel, then made the body mounts. I traced around them, and used (4)- 3/8's shoulder bolts to locate with. After I would finish, I'd use a rubber bisquit on top of the shoulderbolts, then a fender washer, then nyloc nuts.
I have a bad back with bad knees, so, after I did the regular T-Bucket seats, I was in pain. Then, made tubular bomber seats, between the military webbing and the frame, I used springs....gave a really good ride After I made the frames the right width, I had to adjust the front to back dimension. After I got them pretty well set, so I could sit and be comfortable, I drilled the mounting holes. Bolted them in.
Then I mounted my shifter....it was cable operated so I could put it where-ever I needed to.
Then I made a tube, affixed my steering wheel to it, then sat in the car, got a good location, taped a magic marker to the end of a piece of 1/4 rod, traced around the tube as I sat. As I sat there, I also traced around my feet. (pedal location).
Then the body came off.
Then I mounted the steering box since I knew where the column came thru the firewall, hung my pedals, planned for my gauges, drilled and mounted them.
Several test fits, moving this and that....was ready for carpeting, panels....do that last after all else is fitted.
After your template is ready, and everything fits, transfer your cutouts and holes from your butchered up piece of 1/4" plywood to your floor piece. MEASURE 4 OR 5 TIMES, DRILL AND CUT ONCE! THICK PLYWOOD IS EXPENSIVE!
Also, if your going to channel your body on the frame, this has to be taken into account, and planned for.
I go for mounting the floor as close to the actual bottom of the body as I can, that way I sit down into the body, not hanging 1/2 way outta it! With the Bomber seats, I sat 2" off the floor, taking the seat suspension travel into account....I bounced really hard to make sure my butt didn't hit bottom.
Then the glassing begins....which I suck at....but getting better.
