Geez, buy a car that's finished for 10k or so. Then you can modify it to suit you. Building from scratch can be very depressing. I did it once, set a budget of 30k for a high end build and got to 30k and was only half done! For parts RPM and CCR are great., and you have Summit and Speedway and others. And eBay can be a place to find parts and even cars. And the bucketeers are your helpers all the time.

RE: Ford engine.
There have been a lot built with 2.3L 4s.
There have been a lot built with Small blocks and big blocks, too. Small blocks being more common.
All are fewer than the most common SBC.
With a fairly tight budget, it will come down to what works for you at a reasonable price point.
Two motor mounts, a trans mount and driveshaft change, and rewiring a few things is simple, toss in a set of headers.
I will mention that a SBF is longer and narrower, so it may require some additional work. Watch for radiator location and any steering and suspension that may cause exhaust issues.

Here are a couple in the PNW. I don't do FB, but with autotempest you can search ads. Both have Ford engines.
Starter, kind of rough, but if you want to do it all.

As I’ve mentioned before, I use Solidworks for my job. Today it dawned on me that we also have a robotic foam cutter at work. Anything I can draw in Solidworks, I can make out of foam. So I can make a form from foam and do fiberglass parts…..once I know how to do fiberglass. 🤣

Spirit cars has a bunch of videos on the business. I replaced the floor on mine and it still needs some patchwork in 'glass. All that to say, do some research. A bucket is a small project compared to many, but there is a lot of stuff to learn. You would want a negative mold to do a body, unless you do it the Ed Roth way, which is even more sanding!

It's a bit far, and there are things I'd change. Priced pretty high for no title, I don't know how hard it is in Utah to get that done, but interstate is only getting tougher. Still cheaper than a new rolling chassis and body.

That's progress! I remember cleaning out my garage and parking my truck outside to get ready for serious build time on mine. Every step gets you closer to that first ride!

There is a roller in the classifieds here, too. Problem is, it's in Florida. Are you a road trip person?

That would be quite the road trip. Although it’s tempting, I think I’m leaning towards designing my own frame and going from there. I really need to find a picture of exactly what I want for the front and rear so I know what parts I should be looking for.

That's what I'm doing. I bought the DVDs from the free plan website and they do a great job of showing an alternate way to design and build your own frame. I want a more traditional look with some of my own touches: Model A front and rear crossmembers, Z front and rear, spring mounted to wishbones up front, and long enough to fit an inline 6. Get the E Book and DVDs from the website, good ideas in there.

This is again a complete running one. At the price, it might be a mess, it might have most of the parts to bolt on to your own frame or it might get you on the road this year. No pics, so it's up to you to reach out.

I reached out. The price and location work well for me.

Hoping for the best. Share it with us whatever the result.
You will have to swing around to the east of the Grand Canyon to get there. Beautiful, desolate country.
Just checked, Vernon is a couple hundred miles and about 4 hours from me. Not really a quick side trip.

I have (mostly) built one T, and I can tell you it can be a long, frustrating slog. One I bought and had to completely rebuild the wooden body. Again, the price was right but a lot of work. The other three I have bought in a driveable condition. All of them have taken a fair amount of work. You keep asking yourself, "Why the heck did he do it that way?" Then, six months down the road, you find out. The most recent one I bought was supposedly in driveable condition, fairly new, and very good looking...but they admitted they couldn't get the engine to run for any length of time. I bought it and discounted the engine, figuring I might have to replace it. I got it running pretty well; they had not installed a gasket between the carb and the manifold, so it had a massive vacuum leak. But that was only the start of the problems. I had to re-work the front end. He had made a simple mistake and it had no travel. The engine had a number of little problems, and I will, ultimately, have to rebuild or replace it. The transmission has had one leak after another. The brakes worked poorly, so I had to replace the booster and master cylinder and brake light switch. The problem was the guy building it died just as he got it finished, and his son didn't have the interest or expertise to fix all the little problems. It was a bargain, but an expensive one. By the way, it's a Spirit frame and body, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend those parts.

Yikes. The issues you speak of are things I have no clue about. Am I biting off more than I can chew, or can anyone get through this with help from all of you?
