I just finished reading Build it for Under $3k & I am ready to go!

I work away & don't have time while home to be scrounging for every little part though. I'm thinking of starting to collect the parts I need, mostly for Parts Source or Napa where possible. Then I'll call the boys over, weld up the frame & turn it into a roller as fast as I can!

Does that sound reasonable?

Welcome to the forum Sharp21. I didn't have any trouble building mine for under $3000.00 of course that was back in 1967.

Welcome and greetings from the sunny sunny of Colorado.

I think collecting the parts of half the fun.

Keep a photo record of your progress to share with us.

No I've never built a full on rod, but I have a garage & a bunch of tools! I'm in the middle of re-building an old motorbike right now.

I fixed this up a while ago:

I'm not worried about the money as long as I can build it smart. I know a few guys that build cars that I can get to help, so I'd like to get all the pieces together then assemble it fast, Monster Garage style. She doesn't have to be period correct or super clean, just loud & fast. And solidly put together of course.

I'll use a junkyard drivetrain to keep the costs down at first & build the frame. Items like ladder bars & brackets I'm hoping to buy & have them ready to weld on as soon as the frame is done, so that it'll be up on wheels soon after. There is a shop by me that I can get a fibreglass body for $400, as its almost impossible to find good iron in my parts

Welcome :hi: and good luck to you on your build. :thumb: One tip, gather a lot of your parts before you start. It eliminates having to change things down the road if you have to use something other than originally planned. Also you don't have a lot of down time between build time, if you have to wait for parts. Also like ORF said, we like pics. :hoist:

Howdy to Alberta from Nova Scotia.
The best thing you can do for your build is read every thread and post here. Seriously.
These folks are the best at this and can steer you in the right direction and make sure your wheels don't fall off in the process.
If they say you shouldn't do something a certain way it's because of hard-earned experience on their part.
Monster Garage style is cool but not practical in many cases (in my opinion). You are designing a car (not tossing stuff together or rebuilding something) that is to be safe and fun. That takes thought.
As long as you spend LOTS of time in the design room you should come out ok. :)
Real steel is getting hard and harder to find here too. I was lucky and scored some pieces that will hopefully look like something some day.
Amen to what VegasBruce said...
Good luck and ask lots of questions. Don't be surprised if you change your mind a bunch of times after seeing the great rides here.

Thanks Guys!I plan to do both those things:1. Assemble as much before hand2. Plan & designThen when it is time to build I want to get her on wheels fast! That'll keep the wife happy...Couple of questions... Are there any Canadian shops that specialize in T's? Specifically with all the premade brackets ready to weld on?Second, are there any more good assembly manuals or pdf's online to look at? So far I've got the $3k book, read Youngsters frame build & got the Spirit Enterprises assembly manual. All have given great insight & I'd like to see if there is more out there!ThanksS.

I'm not sure about any Canadian outfits. I'm at the end of nowhere, turn left and drive for another day. There's nothing in this part of the world for Ts.
As for other books... the guys will chime in but what are you looking for specifically?
What style of T are you trying to build?
Engine? Suspension?
Feed the guys some ideas of what you want to build.

Seriously.. this site is one of the best "assembly manuals" you will find.
This one is interactive! How many manuals can you ask questions of and have answers from experts? (I'm not an expert though. I'm a newbie to Ts)

I started with Youngsters plans and went from there but I'm not very far along yet.
Because we have a "less than reasonable" inspector here I couldn't go with a suicide axle and had to zee the front of the frame to bring it down some.
Check with the local laws for getting one of these rocket-ships on the road in your area before going too crazy with the build. It will dictate many parts of the build.

Google Welders Series, They make alot of parts and are a Canadian company.....Ron (ruggs)

Dah on me.. forgot about them.
I know a guy who is building a Falcon who has used some of the Welder Series stuff.
He says good things about the products and also about dealing with the guy (DW) there.

Yeah I've been looking here as much as possible, but I dont get a ton of net time so I like to have a hardcopy where possible...

I just want to build something simple that runs good! I'm not even really sure what the difference is yet between a 23 & a 27...

I'll check out that welders series!
