Look what is hanging out in my garage!

A never to me 350. Nothing fit as I thought. New starter for the 153 tooth flex plate. Fuel Pump adapter Plate to match the new block, water pump spacer kit and I hope I can get the pulleys and alternator lined up tomorrow.

Well it is in and running. And I mean RUNNING! It has a Blueprint Cam. About the same lift and duration as a Comp Cam Thumper but not as late closing on the exhaust valve. It has a wicked idle that is happy at 1000 RPM (800 in gear) It has a ton of power c0mpaired to the 70,s truck engine I pulled out. The Speedway Shot Gun Headers are really cool. The way they are split off into 4 pipes (not sure collectors is the right term) make a unique sound.

By the way there are no speed shops he in the swamp so I went to O'Reilly's and they had a couple of guys that were really helpful in selecting things like a starter (switched from 168 tooth to a 153 tooth flex plate) and radiator hoses.new engine.jpg

One thing about a bucket it doesn't push you back in the seat when you get on it. I am going to have to learn to hang on with both hands and lean forward like I do on my motorcycle.

Leaks pretty bad also. I don't why I took it at that stage, but I was shutting it down for the night.

Looks good. Post some more pics when you get a chance.
I have the same exhaust. Let me know if you can figure a way to quiet them down a bit. I wrapped glass cloth around the baffles, but still a tad loud at anything over 65.

Right now I am going to enjoy the noise (music). Do you have a hanger bracket on your?

Yes, I have a hanger bracket. I made a bracket that bolts to the inside of my frame and on the bottom. I used thread serts so I wouldn't have to weld on the frame, since it was powder coated. I use two bolts on the inside and one on the bottom. I used 3/8" bolts. 4 thousand miles since I finished it in June, and no problems so far. Oh ya, after 55mph, the wife and I don't talk anymore, just signals. ;)

20140510_203201.jpeg Got it in and sorted out. sounds million bucks! Runs 180*to 185* at 70-80 MPH cruise. 45 PSI at idle and 65 PSI at 2-3000 RPM.

Looks good! Glad to hear you got it sorted out.

Nice to see you took the time to get the distributor turned correctly. Too often I see them stuck in any old way. Just a pet peeve of mine.

Kick down adj.jpeg

I am wondering about how to set the turbo 350 "kick down adjustment". I set it so it is at full travel at wide open throttle. It shifts out of low gear really early.

You need to pull the cable housing further back to lengthen the shift pattern. May have to reposition the cable bracket further back by adding a plate to remount the cable bracket. 1/2" to 1" should work.

With the bracket readjusted, you then release the cable housing/lock and then open the throttle to wide open and lock the cable back down. When you do this, it pulls the cable and housing together, adjusting the pressure regulator in the tranny. You can fine tune as you drive it and figure out where you want your shift points.

Advance/AutoZone sells an adjustable bracket for the DETENT cable as it is usually called and slides to adjust travel. Hope this helps---Or you can do like me and just manual shift when you want the tranny to stay in low gear longer.

A Lokar kick down cable will allow you infinite adjustment. You cut it to length, so you make the adjustment as long as you want.

Sorry, I misread your post. Upshifts are controlled mainly by the governor on the tailshaft and to a small part by the vacuum modulator. The governor is "programmed" by the factory for the gear ratio and power level of the original vehicle that the trans was installed in. If the rear gear in your car is higher numerically than the original cars gears, you will upshift early due to a higher driveshaft speed.

The modulator adjusts the pump pressure based on vacuum signal. Lower vacuum equals higher pressure. Higher pump pressure will delay the upshifts slightly. Adjustable modulators are available that you can tune, but their effect on shift points is small compared to the governor.

There are kits available (B&M sells one) that will allow you to change the weights and springs in the governor to reprogram it for the shift points you want.

An old trick was to find a 4 or 6 cylinder car or truck that had the same type of trans and rob the governor. The smaller engines tended to have higher shift points. The problem with this is that TH350's haven't been built in many moons and the chances of finding a car that has it's original trans is pretty slim.

Thanks for the input. I set it so it wouldn't hinder wide open throttle. U like the looks of the Locar unit just for looks alone.
