I changed my avatar. The t bucket in my last avatar is NOT my project car. I think some forum members were being confused by that avatar.

BINGO !! It was done one night while I was gettin' PLASTERED !!

The seats I plan to use are 18 1/2"s wide . 2 seats occupy a 37" space. 6 inches more ( console width ) comes to 43"s.

I checked the fleece covered lid yesterday. I added some 2oz. mat ( 3 layers ) to the bottom side of the lid today. I reused the same form for lid # 2. I cleaned it up $ added some fresh mold release. I'll check it out tomorrow 9-25-19. If the lids look good , i'll start the bottom half of the lids. The bottom half will have a recessed area at both ends. One recessed area will be for the hinge & the other recessed area will be for the glue on magnet.

Remember , the 2 lids were made by impregnating the fleece with polyester resin / catalyst.

I stopped using white paint because traces of it were left on my fiberglass. Now I use a spray can of clear to seal my form. Then I use mold release. The finished glass looks a lot better now.

This is the bottom half of my lids. I created a recessed area for the hinge & the magnet. I'll do some more work on it Monday 9-30-19.

I'm still making the 2 console lids. I'm concentrating on the hinged areas. A very time consuming ordeal. I am also in the beginning stages of steering column installation. I cut a rectangular piece out of my firewall. I saved the piece I cut out , to be modified & re-installed later. I purchased a lower steering column from Speedway Motors ( IDIDIT brand ).

This will help me position the lower area of the steering column. Then I can position the top portion of the steering column ( where the steering drop is located ).

I paid for 2 day delivery. The delivery date was Oct 3 , 2019. Today is Oct 5 , 2019. I didn't receive the coupler yet. Ups marked it as DELIVERED. I emailed Speedway Motors with a complaint yesterday. Just waiting for a reply. Another good example of : " what takes a long time to finish a project ".

Little stuff seems to slow me down. I need a certain size and style- _______________ (fill in the blank with nut, bolt, washer, o-ring, gasket, plug, wire, tube, connector, etc) Then again, sometimes I stop just to drink a beer. That slows me down as well.

Hmmm, I paid too much for a shiny billet one with a ball socket sort of thing for mine. I do like the finished look of it, but simple effective designs are nice.

I've been experiencing quicker set up times by changing the amount of catalyst. The required amount is 10 drops of catalyst per ounce of resin. In the past I would use 1/2 of the required amount of catalyst. It took an hour & a half for the resin to set up. Now i'm using more drops. For example : Once ounce of resin requires 10 drops of catalyst. 1/2 of that would be 5 drops. I add 3 more drops to make it 8 drops. In 2 ozs of resin I would use 10 drops + 3 more. My laying up time is still good & my setting up time is faster.

I like the smell but don't much care for doing it anymore. Bondo works the same way DonnyRay. I'll be using some today for my upholstery project.

I also use Bondo plastic body filler. I think i'm getting better with the body filler . I'm also going to be using microspheres. I have some polyester felt in route , waiting for it to arrive. I'm not very happy with the polyester fleece. Fleece soaks up a lot of resin. A 6 in. x 14 in. piece of fleece uses up 5 ozs. of resin. When you separate the fiberglass from the form , you find the underside of the fleece is still raw. So , you have to use more resin ( 3 ozs more ). So , the 2 lids ate up 16 ozs of resin. I also had to reinforce the underside with 3 pieces of 2 0z. fiberglass mat. That's another 5 ozs of resin per console lid. Now you have a total of 26 ozs.
