Potential Modified origins....

In looking for a T bucket to start building I was offered (for an unbelievable price!) an aborted project from a good friend.
I bought it regardless because it came with several parts I needed for my present project.
The Hot Rod parts are basicly gravy!!!

I'm left with a semi complete 2x3 frame (deep Zee'd front and rear)
It's in good shape, unused and was actually put together by another friend (fitzee) whos work I'm confident in.
A 1939 Ford front axle setup with perfect kingpin bushings and wishbone, a custom front main spring, 1967 318 Poly Mopar in reasonable running condition (but the 727 trans is untested), 9" 3.50 geared rearend, Rad and steering column (I'll be using in my current project) and assorted other bits and pieces.

Heres the thing...it also comes with a 1927 Buick closed cowl in good shape that I can easily recreate into a bucket style body for a Modified and it will offer good footroom even when sliced and diced to a more Model T like profile.

Hmmm...wonder how much cutting and welding I'm in for next year!!!
I'll have to do a search for some body building on the site....:D

Have you seen the smiley "this thread is worthless without pics"? we need some (several would be better) ;)

I know...I know!!!
Not really much to look at, just a bunch of parts I'm thinking, but I promise I'll get a few pics once I start getting some of it home.
He had it laid together the last time I looked at it (three months ago...) so who knows...might be an interesting picture to post!

I just realized that my first post makes it seem like the Buick is a complete car I'll cut down...but in fact, it is JUST the cowl.
I can't see an edit button to go back into the post and change it.
Just thinking too that I know of an old Studebaker Duplex cowl section...rusted beyond hope...but it still has two good open-car style windshield posts!
Looks like a little field trip will be in order once this bit of snow clears up!

I DO have a pic of that! :sneaky:

Didn't get down yet to photograph the full project but I did find these pics of us checking out the cowl at the recovery site. Lovely area but the debris was a good walk down the river.
Seems like the wreckage got washed down stream in a few floods over the years...
BTW...The guy in the pics is the guy I bought the stuff from.
Theres other stuff around there too so I'm planning on going back to the site to get a better look early this spring.
There was a lot of hornets and wasps in the area that day! Had to be careful just where you went!!!

The valve cover was on the engine but not even bolted down.
Gotta see if I can dig up another on Ebay or whatever and cut them down to use as decorative covers on the V8. NOT trying to hide the SBC it will have, so no Buick emblems, but I just think the vent louvers are too cool to not try to use!

The black Hot Rod is a cut down 27 sedan...so imagine it as a Modified with narrower tires all around. I think its cool and different...AND it should give me some extra foot room.

Yes...imagine the times its seen and the lives its touched!
85 years old now...once the brand new car someone was proud to own, then eventually (we think) to become the lighting plant for the old water driven sawmill and ultimately, as its useful life came to an end, it become just another piece of debris along the flood plain down river.
The history just drags me in every time. Its great to have the chance to give it life again.

Thanks for the info Mike.
NOW I see how it works and its a good idea!
