SHIFTER

Of course the safest thing to do is always start the car from the inside.

Of course the safest thing to do is always start the car from the inside.

That's always the best way. Mine will only start in park or neutral, but I still get inside to start it. I'd heard the stories and saw what can happen. When I had my old motor, it would take a few cranks to start. My new motor cranks right up...... quickly!

I always start my car while inside and in control, usually with my foot on the brake. Me and a friend got hit by a MG at a car show where the guy started the car without being in it. Car took off, hit me and my friend, i had a few bruises, my friend got his legs crushed between the MG and his 55 Chevy.

Here is my B&M Mega shifter, was originally for a truck but I cut it down to fit the bucket.

Messing around with the 32 one day and for some unknown reason left it in gear. Went to start it up a few days later (and it did with plenty of rpm from the choke) and I came within a frog hair of hitting my wife's BMW in the rear.

After that I worked on the neutral safety switch and adjusted it properly. Since that day I have never started the car again with out my foot frimly on the brake. I have also thought if you had shifter without safety switch you could eaisly put one on the brake where it would not start without you foot on the brake. The down side to that is if you kill the engine while rolling and do not want to stop to re start.
