Speedway x-member

Is there any reason that I couldn't or shouldn't cut the engine cross-member at the motor mounts? I would be leaving where the mounts are welded to the frame but eliminate the connecting part between the mounts. I have seen other buckets without this x-member, so why can't I? I am getting tired off lifting the body and the engine up high enough to remove the oil pan.

We don't use a cross member under the engine, just for that reason.

How heavy it your frame material? If it's 2x3x3/16 I see no reason for a front crossmember , if it's one of the frames built from 1.5x3 and 11 gauge metal someone else will have to give you info on that.

I don't know if I would trust that kind of mount without some kind of gusseting. What i would do is cut the tube as you mentioned, add tabs to the tube and the stubs so it can be bolted back in place.

Yes, I just measured it and it is 1.5 x 3, so I am not sure whether or not I should. I was going to upgrade later to the RPM mounts but If I need this x-member there is no sense in changing the mounts later on.

Thats the size frames Total Performance sold for years and i've never seen a cross member used.I have a Total frame and i think the welded on motor mounts and the engne stifen the frame up.JMHO
