Two steps forward...

So there I was cutting the firewall and floor of the body to fit, and I notice that I needed to move the engine mounts forward 3/4 of an inch. Great, except I had fully welded them to the frame (yeah yeah tack it all first...)

Anyway I get out the grinder and get the engine mounts off, ripping a hole in the frame doing so. Small hole easy to fix, except I start looking a little deeper and think "Funny that looks awful thin"

So I get out the drill, drill a hole a few inches away and start measuring. Here is what I came up with.

Frame width: 52mm
Inside measurement: 48.5mm (measured from the outside of the frame through the hole to the inside of the other side of the frame)

So I do some math: 52 - 48.5 3.5mm/2 = 1.75mm

So now I am thinking "Holy s***" They only used 14g or 16g metal for my frame!!

Then I came to my senses and realized that I had done the math wrong and divided by 2 when I should not have and the metal is actually 3.5mm = 10g

So whats the moral of this story?

USE TACK WELDS!! It will really save a lot of hassle :D

whew.. lucky indeed.
But that's too much math for my head at this time of morning...
52 - 48.5 3.5mm/2 = 1.75mm *2 = 3.5mm = 10g
Good grief... does 1 + 1 still = 2?

I haven't even tack-welded my mounts to the frame. If you can envision it, I have added an upside-down "U" to them that sits over the frame. That way I can slide the engine back and forth until it's where it will rest. Then I will cut off the outer part of the "U" and bolt the rest in place. It may not be a show-car look but I have to do all of this with few-to-no tools and no garage of my own.

Been there, done that a couple times too. No need to get our shorts in a bunch. It ain't screwed up till we can't fix it!

i like to measure twice ,weld it once then cut it back off and then put it on again right,i like to think of the first try as practice :hi:
