Figured I would post up a tech piece to test out my like/dislike for the use of Photobucket uploading.
So far...not very impressed with the "modern" photobucket.
I'm finding photobucket to be irritating as it kind of bombards you with advertising and slows down my computer some.
Anyway...on with the test! LoL
My sprint header mufflers were burnt out and extra noisy. I decided to make longer and bigger tube mufflers to replace them.
I picked up 4 cherry bombs and test fit them with band clamps to get an idea on length.
Once I settled on a length I cut the CB's apart and made 2 extra long mufflers from the bits.
If you look inside the CB's you can see that only one end of the inner baffle tube is welded and the other slip fits. By cutting the outer shell on the welded side the whole inner tube and fiberglass packing slips out easily.
The shells and baffles were cut to length, reinstalled and welded together to make the longer mufflers.
I also made a simple front baffle for the collector area...but if given my time back I would have just left the tube open for a little more flow and sound.
To hold the weight of the heavier mufflers I made hangers from early Chevy truck lever shock arms. Cut down Landcruiser leaf spring bushings fit perfectly as insulators and 3 hole tabs allow mounting to the rear band clamps and onto the arm insulators.
Worked perfectly and give an interesting look.
The new mufflers were welded onto the headers and the cut down turnout was welded to the rear. The weld areas were ground down a bit and treated with zinc primer for rust protection. These weld areas are covered with stainless band clamps.
To cover the mufflers I had a local sheet metal shop roll satin finish stainless to fit the diameter and pinched them in place on the mufflers with the band clamps. I like the different look of the satin finish and the chrome working together. Have had some nice compliments on the overall look and on the sound. Much deeper and no rasp like the old inserts.
Ok...that took about an hour and 15 minutes to do...inc uploading the pics to Photobucket.
PBucket is blocked with advertising which slows down the process a bit...but its workable.
I wonder will these photos disappear as I add more photos to the PBucket file? Hope not.
I would be much happier to just add photos directly to the site...but Pbucket is...manageable.
now...post and see how it looks!
