Where to buy an already shortened driveshaft

I am mounting my rear end on an already once built 23 t bucket. By sizing up the driveshaft that came with the car, it appears to be too small for my new set up. I now need to get one a few inches longer.

Do I need to get one custom made or is there a place in which I can order one that comes in inch increments or at least smaller lengths?

Thank you

take your measurements to a drive shaft shop or a machine shop....

Google "drive line shop" or "drive line specialists" with your locale and you will find numerous vendors who can lengthen your existing shaft fairly easily and affordably. They will tell you their preferred way of measuring for the proper length... there are several ways to do it.

I use Fleetpride for drive shafts The last one I had them shorten cost me less then $100 and that's with a new yoke and U-joints, I dropped it off at 10:30 am and they had it done before 3:00. You will have to drop it off and give them the measurement you need.

Ok maybe a stupid question but what if you don't have a drive shaft to start with? I'm building my 27T and have no drive shaft. Will most shops make you one or do you have to have an old one for them to shorten?

I never have one to start with. When I needed the last drive shaft to mate a GM th350 to a Chrysler 8 3/4" rear end the shop had the yokes and everything. All I did was supply the distance from the end of the output shaft to the center of the U-joint on the rear end and they knew how to handle the rest.

Both. Stopped by the our local machine shop (after talking to some of the local dirt track guys to find which shop they used) and asked what I needed to do. They asked me what kind of rearend, transmission and the distance from the the transmission to the rearend. If they buy the parts, they mark them up. If you take the parts to them, it might save you a couple bucks. You also know that you have the right yoke and U-joint. Of course if you can take one they should able to shorten it for you. Might be able to pick one up at a junk yard.

I had one made all new. The shop told me that in the time it takes them to clean and shorten one it will cost just about as much as a new one....if they can even use the old one because of all the rust that over time thins the tube making it difficult to weld. My new shaft [29-1/2"] with high performance u-joints, painted black, assembled and ready to install was $260. I provided trans yoke and diff flange.

I got a used one for $15 at the junk yard about a year ago. Got it shortend last week to 15" for $70 and they painted it for me.
