Google IrfanView and download it. It is a free image editor and will easily resize your images. 640 pixels X 480 pixels is usually a good size to use for most Web stuff, particularly forums.

Or not...

Our 950 pixel main table width pretty much gets broken with images that are 1024 pixels wide.
