Loud pipes . . .

True story: When I was in college I drove an old 53 Chevy Belair 4-door which I mildly customized (Burgundy metallic ‘Earl Sheib’ paint job, tubular grill, shaved hood & deck, ’54 taillights, ’61 Impala steering wheel, fake mag wheel covers, yada-yada) and I had split the exhaust manifold, adding duals with glass packs. The twin pipes on those old stovebolt sixes would really ‘rap’ at certain RPM’s and rattle the neighborhood windows. Once at summer school I was the ‘taxi’ for lunch runs since I had a large 4-door vehicle, and on the way back to the campus there was a RR underpass that I couldn’t resist – I don’t think I ever went through there without hitting second gear (3-on-the-tree) and rapping the daylights out of that ol’ 235 ci six-cylinder. I thought I was cool!

(PS - My car resembled the one in the pic only 4 doors and 100 ft away!)
