Low Slung T

This was a thread I did a few years ago. When photobucket got up their own a##hole I deleted all my pics from their web site. So no pics... sorry

Windshield Post

I do remember another member posting earlier on this thread that he added studs to the frame that went through the cowl and attached to a piece of metal under the dash. What is everyone else's opinion on this? Has anyone had any problems with just the two bolts holding it in?[/QUOTE said:
I used a piece 1/8 flat steel 2' WIDE AND BENT TO CURVATURE OF BODY on each side and welded to a 1" square tubing that went across and behind the dash that I used to mount my coloum drop to. Two holes in each piece of flat steel that aligned with the windshield post and through the body. Has held up at over 120 mph and one wreck.

T test - that’s just extra reinforcement for the post? The frame itself is still just held in with the one bolt on each side through the uprights of the posts?

That is correct as the frame will be in the channel of the post and touching the cowl of the body. I used weather stripping from Speedway. Comes in different thicknesses and widths.

You need the extra reinforcement for the post as it will support the body (fiberglass) and w/s frame from the wind and hands that will eventually pull on it at times or it could wind up in your face at sometime while driving..

I found a different way to do it. Bolts up from the inside of the cowl into the screen bottom rail. Home made posts and this brace inside the body...

Now Gerry--you know most of us don't have your talent--money or time to make beautiful Hot Rods like you.:D:D:D:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I certainly haven't got much money, but time and an engineering background does help.

Been getting some work done on a few things.
My windshield posts are roughed in. Did I mention that body work just isn’t my thing. I don’t think they look too bad though.

Received my alternator bracket from Ron. Haven’t done much but bolt it on and see if the stock LT1 alternator would fit it. It doesn’t but I’m not surprised. Ron and I discussed how it likely wouldn’t as it was built for an earlier style alternator. I just need to find what alternator will work best for me and fit in this bracket. Probably a trip to the auto parts store with the original alternator I have to make sure I get the right plug and the bracket. This should make them go batty when I don’t give them any info to put in the computer.

Also started on my rear box. This is the floor. I just got it cut out and am thinking about where I’m going to be putting tabs on the frame to bolt it down so they won’t interfere with where my fuel lines need to be. The filters and pump I have sitting on top will get mounted to the floor but underneath it. Still in the brainstorming phase of this part. They didn’t really fit where I initially wanted to put them.

Oh yeah. This guy has been hanging out in the garage lately. He’s been pretty much demanding that I teach him to weld and he wanted to build a table. So we built the table and now he’s terrorizing my Lincoln. He hasn’t put down anything that looks like a bead yet, but he also has only jammed up my wire in the tip once. I says that’s a pretty good start. I imagine he will be showing me how to weld things before he leaves home.

That alternator bracket looks like mine, which accepts a "standard" GM type alternator.

Best way to learn... with a little guidance.

Do you all use anything to isolate your fuel tank from being mounted directly to the frame? Like rubber or something like that.

Got a little work done on my “bed”. Right now I’m slowing welding it all together. Probably going to put a piece of half round around the top of it for some looks. I wish I had a bigger garage so I could get some more shop tools like a bead roller and a brake but definitely don’t have the room for anything more at this point.
Also, not sure if online how tall it is. I’ll probably put a lid on it at some point and it’s current height allows me just enough room for a 30 pack.

The bed with the half round added.
Making that half round pipe was interesting. Although probably not the best tool for the job, I split a piece of tubing with my plasma cutter. I’m thinking a band saw would have been way easier and cleaner. Unfortunately don’t have one of them. I think it turned out alright.
