T-bucket project based on a volvo!

I think it's coming along great, you're doing a fantastic job keep it up.

Here's how I did the top:

First I made a "rig" to stretch the fabric on:
IMGP0174.jpg

I used a pipe to get a round edge.
The plywood you see isn't the acutal top it's only there to keep the pipe in place.
IMGP0172.jpg

There will be a thinner sheet of plywood on top when the sides are done.

Then I stretched the fabric ( I used a bed sheet, not sure that was a good choice since I got ugly wrinkles when the polyester dried)
DSC01009.jpg

Then I used polyester (I think that's the right word for it)
DSC01025.jpg

(It's the blue liquid in the white box)
And applied that to the fabric to get some strenght in it.
IMGP0184.jpg

And then it's time for the fibreglass,

I'll apply two layers of fibreglass on the outside then take it of from the "rig" and apply 6-8 layers of fibreglass on the inside.

Then it's time for filler and all that stuff....

Hi!

It's been quite awhile since the last update, but now i've had the time to work some more with my bucket.
I have fabricated a new new windshield frame:
DSC01083-1.jpg

I have shortened the steering column, before it was about 1,5meters long and rigid, so I shortened it down to 30cm and will connect it to a collapsible one.
DSC01033.jpg

I have also started fabricating a roll cage, I am building the roll cage to have some strong points to attach the seatbelts and the hardtop and for protection if I crash.
burit-hinken.jpg

A company here in sweden that builds and sells parts for rally cars ( Finess - Specialister p Rally & Racing ) Helped me bending some tubes to fit my frame.
Rear bow(?) it's about 4 inches to high in this picture:
IMGP0405.jpg

Front bow(?)
IMGP0409.jpg

I welded the bows(?) onto the frame for now, I want them to stay in place and not disort when i weld the tubes.

When it's welded and done I will cut it of from the frame and weld four 5mm plates on the roll cage and four on the frame and then bolt them together.

IMGP0415.jpg

When I was sawing the ends of one of the tubes between the bows with a holesaw(?) in the drill press, I accidently overheated the holesaw. and totaly destroyed it:

After:
IMGP0427.jpg

I used motor oil to cool the holesaw but that was apparently not enough.
So i'll have to buy a new one tommorrow and i'll also buy a better cooling oil or something.

Thanks for reading!

you do some nice work i like your car project , on the hole saws i saw a demonstration once where a man was selling these hi strength german drill bits his grandfather had designed he drilled through a crow bar and a brake rotor and a few other hard objects and they kept drilling he also stated he would honor a life time warranty on them $135 a set lol yes i bought a full set anyway i asked what kind of oil do you use to lubricate them ? he said oil no way i use anti freeze ? yup he said the oil gets hot and messed up the temper of the metal , so when i drill hard material thats what im going to use , i used to use machinist sulphur cutting oil ,

Ovlov,

As usual, your project looks great!

captainjunk,

Anti-freeze? Wow, I've never heard of that being used as a cutting fluid before either. I use it in my tig torch cooler. Hummm, I wonder how toxic something like this would be when it starts to burn.

Thanks! anti freeze, that's interesting..... I'll definitely try that next time!

Thank you RexRod!

Todays update:

My dad has just finished a blasting cabinet that he's been building, and now he has promised me to help me blasting and painting my front suspension and help me fix the brakes!:D
Blaster cabinet: (He's really really proud of it:))
IMGP0364.jpg

Front suspension:
IMGP0438.jpg

Here is the steering box/column, there was a bearing at the top of the column that I could not remove so i just cut the top 5 cm of the column and welded it to the column after I made it shorter..
IMGP0444.jpg

And here are some really cool stuff that im going to use for the bucket that was originaly mounted on the volvo.

Seat belt attachment and lock thingy, I think it looks really cool so i will just get a new belt to go with it.
IMGP0449.jpg

Brake and clutch pedal assembly:
IMGP0460.jpg

The pedal arm will be mounted on the outside of the firewall with only two rods going through the firewall with the "pedal plates" at the end.
This way i can mount them further forward and have more legroom, wich is good sicne I'll almost be sitting on the floor:D.

Thank you for reading:D

Keep up the good work, looks like you are making steady progress. You have lots of good ideas, should be cool once it's finished.

It's cool you're going strong with her. I have read and heard how hard it is to build a hot rod over seas and I admire your drive. Keep up the great work, man.

I don't know if anyone else has said it but I've got to tell you that I love the way the frame dips down in the middle. Tim.

Ovlov
I am constantly surprised with the different ideas and designs that take place in the Hot Rodding World. You are doing a great job :):)

:DHi everyone!

It's been a long time since my last update, and there is basicly two reasons for that.....

The first is that I lost my drivers license in march this year (I was speeding:naughty: when a unmarked police car came up behind me and measured my speed to 103km/h on a 70km/h road, that has previously been a 90km/h but there was a road construction up ahead.)
And becasue of that i lost all intrest in the bucket for a few months, but now I'm back on track again. (I have to redo all the test and the "driving exam" to get my license back, and the last test will be on the 18th of june so I hope that I will do as good this time as the last time.

The second reason is that I just graduated school and have been looking for a job, but since the world economy is what it is these days... that isn't a very easy task....

But enough about that here is the latest progress of the bucket:

I got my fenders that I'm going to use:

IMGP0140.jpg

IMGP0153.jpg

The grille shell is to high I know, I'm going to cut it down to a more apropriate length when I know what the final ride heights and so on will be.
