A good friend of mine sent me this today and I thought that It might be of some interest. It really shows how the price of Model T stuff has changed.

For those prices, shoot the works and rebuild the car! Now who has the calculator to put that into todays dollars?

Well, according to this site: CPI Inflation Calculator

$25 dollars in 1928 is worth $308.69 today. There is no way you can get both your engine and transmission overhauled tody for the labor charge of $308.69. Interesting.

Employees often didn't have medical, dental, 401Ks, matching social security, workman's comp, unemployment insurance, paid vacations, etc... all that stuff costs money... plus all the hi tech equipment you have to have today to be a service center... back the ya just needed some tools!

the sad thing about all the technology is, todays normal car probably doesnt get much better fuel mileage as the cars did back then..

billions upon billions of dollars of money spent on technology on fuel mileage and the average vehicle is getting what 25miles per gallon?

my mother had a lil subaru that got better fuel mileage than that in the 70's, near 30mpg.. my sister had a lil mazda that got 30mpg in the 80's.. guess its hard to beat a one barrel carb... the mazda was actually pretty quick..

plus all this technology makes them near impossible to work on yourself... its a wonder the car manufacturers dont design and patent a special oil filter and wrench so you cant change your own oil, thats probably next..

what i dont understand is that the flex fuel is suppose to be the best fuel...:laff:... but regardless what car you put it in, it doesnt help other then maybe global warming..... :offtopic:maybe here

Brucer,

I agree. My wife drives a little 1984 Honda CRX that gets over 50 mpg at 80 mph! A few years ago, I drove that car to the west coast and back and it just amazed me how fuel efficient it was. The car only has a 7 gallon gas tank. Filling it up only takes about a minute.
