Bent axle

Hi, My tube axle has been driven over some thing bending the axle back and up. Not by me, previous owner. Its bent near the centre back 8 or 10mm and up 5mm. How do I fix it and have it true again?

The best thing is to replace the axle.

Agreed!! The only place I know that can straighten an axle is a Manufacturer or an axle shop that repairs them or adds the kingpin bosses to them. More money rhan replacing it.

The only problem with replacing is the whole front end is home made. Would end up having to change everything.

Not necessarily. Whom ever builds the axle can make the ends of the axle to match what you have now.

The axle was homemade back in 1970 and now for rego you need a engineers report with the axle from a recognized manufacturer. The axle I have came with a welders and x-ray report, as it has been on club rego for 20 or more years its ok to use.

So who's to tell them! You Australians are known to be of an outlaw nature are you not?

The hoops you have to jump through and level of certifications you guys in Australia have to go through are amazing.

Just spoke to the guy certifying the car and he is allowing me to get it straitened at a truck repairer. Now to find one. If it was up to the politician's and greenies there wouldnt be and old or modified cars.

The guys that started all this hot rod building reforged model a axles and got them straight so I don't see why a front end shop that can line up twin I beam ford front axles couldn't straighten your axle

I dropped the axle in to get repaired and they wanted to know what angle to set it at. Can anyone help.

All is good, picked up the axle today. I will be refitting it tomorrow. The only issue is the chrome has suffered so I might get it stripped and paint it.
