BenT exhaust

John- just reading these as I was traveling today. The exhaust on my '27 was custom built by myself. I bought header flanges, a bunch of u bends, tapered cones from speedway, some 3" straight pipe and 3" internal auger mufflers. Lots of cutting, fitting and welding. Each header is over 7' long. We ceramic coated these in our shop. I'm on my phone now, but can post some pics tomorrow if you are interested.

John: Here you go. thanks for the kind words. My original inspiration was the Hot Rod 50th anniversary '27 that Brizio built in the 90's.

I started with Hedman header flanges that already had stub outs. I then cut up and fit a bunch of 1-5/8" u bends to 1-5/8" to 3" tapered cones from Speedway. From there I cut up some 3" u bends to get down under the doors. the long 3" straight runs under the doors have 3" auger mufflers welded in them. They are supported by a stud toward the ends of the header that fits in a rod end bushing that is mounted to the frame. When building, I first got the lakes portion fabbed, then we tig welded and smoothed them up first as it would be difficult to do this with the 3" pipes welded on. Brizio cheated and started with a set of Sanderson Lakes headers, but I didn't have the $700 bucks to spend on just that portion! Each header has 12 pieces welded together and smoothed to make the 1 piece header. After smoothign the welds, we ceramic coated them in our shop. Here is some photos from the fabbing and some of the headers on the car.

Awesome work! Boy, it's nice to have a good TIG welder at your disposal.

How do you have them supported toward the rear?

Bob appears theres a stud 6-8" from the end prolly that goes to a tab or straight into frame check out the painting picture.
Great job Ben hope you dont mind me stealing your idea also
john

Correct: the stud is secured in an isolated mount that is part of the frame.
John: I have no issue with anyone using any of my construction or design ideas. Thanks!

Ahh, right, I missed that. Thanks.

Distinct: The body is a Poliform stretched '27 body. It came bare with the trunk hinged. I cut the doors myself. The frame is a 2x3x3/16 steel frame that my Dad and I constructed. The body sits on the frame (unchanneled). What you seen the the pics are frame rail covers we fabricated that are tapered to fit the body. They are 6" deep in the back and taper to 4" in the front. Here is a shot of the rolling chassis with the frame covers and one bare after paint.
