Hello trading my ride even for another. is there a certain form you use or just a regular bill of sale and put trade were a price is supose to go ? im from louisiana i cant find any info on this even at the dmv

I think Bill of Sale would be fine. Although in the price area you will probably need to put down an agreed upon value (that means LOWBALL it).

check with your local dmv. different states require different procedures.

Most states I've lived in charge a tax equal to the state sales tax on vehicles. In Iowa if it is a new/used car bought through a dealer it is a sales tax. If it is bought through a private party it used to be called a road use tax. Might still be called that. Whatever the name it is a tax and the lower the price you can show on a bill of sale the less tax you will pay.

Just a related aside; in 1969 I bought a new car in Oklahoma. I paid their 2% sales tax and registered the car there. A few months later I was given an assignment to California so I came up here to Iowa to visit the folks. I registered the car here and got Iowa plates because at the time it was illegal to have a drivers license from one state, a car registered in another and be living in a third state. I went to the tax office to make the change and they charged me a 1% road use tax to make up the difference between the 2% sales tax in Oklahoma and the 3% sales tax in Iowa. They called it a road use tax. I was only in the state for a couple of weeks so I hardly think my little VW beetle could have had too much impact on the state's highways but evidently the powers who oversee our every need in the Peoples Republic of Iowa thought so.

It matter's not where you are, believe me it's going to cost you. They will find some sort of tax.
