The engine might also need more beef in the bottom end, new pistons and rings (8:1 or so...), surely a blower cam, new rods, and so on. I would think $6,000 out the door is cheap.

Are there any reasonably priced blowers?

Sure. Stick one on a crate motor and have some fun. As long as you don't abuse the privilege, it will last a long time. My crate motor with blower has gone for 25 years. Now if you have a lead foot, it might go bang. Check eBay for used blowers. A new setup from wieand or other speed shop could be $3k-$5k.
