Braided stainless steel hoses

About what time period did braided stainless steel hoses become popular? I want to make my T-Bucket more of a '60 style (it's more '70's style with the Centerlines, SS hoses and velour/vinal interior) and i'm thinking the SS hoses don't really fit the '60's theme.

I don't think so either. I would just use steel lines with the standard 45 degree double flare and on the front use a black rubber brake hose to the drum or caliper.

The AN (Army/Navy) standard was invented in WWII (or just before it), so the hose and fittings have been around since well before the 60's. Just could not tell you how prevalent it's use was in the 60's in automotive applications. It was definitely popular by the mid 70's.

Sometime around 1960-1961, my Dad and I discovered an old aircraft salvage yard North of Tulsa. We bought a BUNCH of braded stainless hoses in all the sizes we thought would work. We even used a large one for the radiator hose. Also used hard stainless to replace all the steel brake and fuel lines. The stuff was dirt cheap in those days (before everyone else discovered it).
